AIR ELEMENT FORMULA

The Air element is often also described as ‘Metal’ in TCM, and it is all about taking in and letting go – the part of the cycle associated with grief, but also with the death of all that we think we are, and the reconnection to our true, grounded, connected nature. This element almost ties together all of the elements in a beautiful reminder that all we desire to be, we already are, but we forget this as we move through the cycles of life. The Air element is all about inspiration; about taking an expansive breath! In balance, we can inhale and exhale fully, in trust that the next breath will naturally come, just as life intended. We trust the process of grief, learning from each experience and gaining wisdom, trusting in life’s flow. It is the season of Autumn; change. The imbalanced emotion of Air/Metal is grief, and lack of trust in letting go.

This formula helps balance an excess or deficiency of the characteristics associated with the air (metal) element: intellectual; thinking; logic; aesthetics; ideas; inspiration; original; creative; vision; detached; impersonal; objective; unlimited by form; infinite possibilities; the seed of a new form; flighty; ungrounded; nervous.

Useful for those who have one or more of the following characteristics:
are highly intellectual individuals who need a lot of mental stimulation
are ungrounded and tend to live from their minds
tend to believe that their mind’s assessment of life is more important than their imagination, intuition, gut feelings, physical sensations, or instincts
need to increase their ability to plan and organize things
feel that intellectual pursuits are pretentious
need to get in touch with their creative and original thinking
need detachment and objectivity
are flighty and superficial
need to have more freedom or fear that their freedom is limited
are dealing with great amounts of information at the same time
obsess over situations or thoughts

The Air Element, known in Sanskrit as Vayu, not only means air as a mixture of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and other gases but also as a dimension of movement. It is the mobile part of the body. It is responsible for inhalation, exhalation, movements of different body fluids and movements of different body parts, for example opening and closing of the eye lids. Vayu Mahabhuta is connected to the sense of touch. Out of all of the 5 Ayurvedic Elements, Vayu is the most accessible and easiest element to gain some mastery of. Most yogic practices involve an element of breath work, called pranayama. Prana means life force in Sanskrit and is the most available to our existence every moment of the day. Without Air, we have no breath or ability to move through life. The impact of the air that we breathe is very immediate. Most people can’t go without air for more than three-and-a-half to five minutes before causing serious damage or suffocation. The qualities of Air evoke movement, ease, lightness, speed but also unpredictability and flightiness.

Yoga teachers may offer 1 drop to their students at the beginning of the class (for meditation for example, before Pranayama practices) or right before Shavasana to inhale it a few times deeply.
B) Add 1-2 drops into your palms, mornings and evenings, rub them together and inhale the scent from your hands 5x deeply and rhythmically. After 3 weeks of usage, keep 1 week of break, after the break you can continue the journey the same way.
C) Using it on specific body parts topically, like on the chest (location of the 4th chakra), please dilute 3 drops of Air element formula with a small amount of base oil (for example: bio, cold pressed, virgin coconut oil, sunflower seed oil or almond oil) massage into the area mornings and evenings for 5 days. After 5 days of usage keep 2 days of break and continue with the same routine. After 3 weeks of usage, keep 1 week of break.

#PersonalTIP

The bija mantra of the fourth chakra (heart chakra), Yam (yum), increases air element in the body and mind. This element is responsible for movement, quick changes, and inspiration. When you’re feeling lethargic, apathetic or indifferent, chanting this mantra at least 7 times daily or 108 times for better result, may be the catalyst for the mental shift that is necessary to regain your perspective and enthusiasm.
